CA-24: Preemptive Adwatch, Which to air?

I am the volunteer web-tech guy for the Jill Martinez campaign for CA-24

I know that the MyDD crowd has been watching a lot of campaign ads lately, and I thought you all might be interested in a few more. The Jill Martinez for Congress campaign has put up 3 propsective ads asking for feedback and donations to put one of them up on TV.

I'd guess that Jill has one of the smaller congressional campaigns running. The ads were produced by friends of the campaign on a volunteer basis. They're not the slickest, but she does do a decent job of cutting to the chase and calling out the Republican incumbent, Elton Gallegly, on Iraq and other Republican fake national security issues. I think the third ad, en español, is a touching message encouraging people to exercize their right to vote and a little sí se puede.

Anyway, the feedback is the thing, what do you think?

Re: CA-24: Preemptive Adwatch, Which to air? (none / 0)

The 2nd ad is not bad, but she needs better text. It's a mistake to say her opponent voted for tax cuts without saying that he voted for tax cuts for the wealthy. Viewers think tax cuts are good, but tax cuts for the wealthy not so much.

I gather things are being done a shoestring and I appreciate that. Look at some of the ads that have been done with consulting firms and note the way things are phrased. You don't have to plagiarize, but you can surely crib some of the better words. For example, how about "supports the failed policies of the Bush administration."

Best of luck!
